Barcelona

Barcelona is the capital city of Catalonia in Spain. It is situated on the Mediterranean coast of northeastern Spain, only the second in Spain in size and importance after Madrid. It has been chief port of Spain, with a naval arsenal. By the beginning of the 20th century, it became the largest manufacturing town, called the "Spanish Manchester," the staple manufacture being cotton.

It is also the seat of a bishopric and a university. The city has numerous churches, convents, and theatres. It is also a city of historical importance.
