Barium sulfate
Barium sulfate, chemical formula BaSO
4, is an insoluble and odourless white powder. It is used in several industries including making of pigments, textiles, paper, and plastic. It is also used as contrasting agent in X-raying patient's stomach and intestines, for which the powder is mixed with water and the patients are asked to swallow it.
