Bark beetle

Bark beetle is a small wood-boring beetle that causes death of a tree if heavily infested. It tunnels under the bark of trees and hence its name. It belongs to the family Scolytidae. Several species belonging to many genera are found. The smaller European elm bark beetle (Scolytus multistriatus) is known for spreading the fungus that causes Dutch elm disease which destroys elms.
