BARODA

BARO`DA, a city in the State of Gujarat in India.

History

Formerly, Baroda was a native state of Gujarat, in the prov. of Bombay, with a capital of the same name, the sovereign of which was called the Guicowar; the third city in the presidency, with Hindu temples and a considerable trade.

After independence of India, Baroda state was merged with India, and became part of the state of Maharashtra. Later, Maharashtra was further divided and Gujarat state came into existence. Baroda became part of Gujarat.
