Barr body

Barr body is a term in anatomy and physiology for a condensed inactive X chromosome in the normal female somatic cell. Since it is a small staining structure in the cell nuclei in female mammals, it is easily identified with ordinary stains. It has clinical significance, and is regarded as diagnostic of genetic femaleness.
