Barren

Barren refers to a state of being, in which, a land does not produce much or any vegetation, a plant or tree does not produced fruit or seed, a female animal which is not pregnant or unable to become so, or a woman unable to have babies. However, use of the word for a woman is now considered archaic.

Anything unproductive, or showing no results or achievements, is also called barren. Barren also refers to a lifeless or bleak place or building. Anything said that is considered valueless or empty of meaning is barren. If something is barren of a particular thing, we mean to say that something is devoid of the particular thing.

Barrens, the plural form of barren, is used to refer to a barren tract of land.
