Barthélemy Diaz
Barthélemy Diaz (c. 1450 – 1500) was a Portuguese navigator, sent on a voyage of discovery by king John II of Portugal, in the command of two ships. He sailed down the West coast of Africa and doubled the Cape of Good Hope, which, from the storm that drove him past it, he called the Cape of Storms. Returning to Lisbon he was superseded by Vasco da Gama, or rather subordinated to him. He subsequently accompanied Cabral on his voyage to Brazil, and was lost in a storm in 1500.Nearby pages
