Baseline

Baseline is the minimum level or point for making comparisons. It is also the imaginary straight line in printing on which a line of type rests. In volleyball, tennis, and other sports the lines marking the ends of the courts are called baselines. The line between the bases in baseball close to which a runner must stay while running is also called baseline.
