Basic

Basic refers to something that is fundamental, an essential foundation, or the starting point. It is the simplest and lowest level consisting of only the minimum required for something. Such things offer no luxury or elaboration. The things that are commonly required by everyone are also the basics.

Basic, as contrasted with acidic in chemistry, refers to a compound having the properties of or containing a base. The base or the alkaline solution has a pH greater than 7.

In geology, the rock relatively poor in silica is called base, especially igneous rock.

In metallurgy, a steel making process involving lime-rich refractories and slags is called base, and also anything relating to it.

The essential facts or principles of a subject or skill, food and supplies, or basic training in military, are called basics.
