Basil I
Basil I (b. 826–835? — d. 886), also known as Basil the Macedonian, was a Byzantine emperor (867–886), the emperor of the East. Though he had raised himself to the throne by a succession of crimes, he governed wisely. He compiled, along with his son Leo, surnamed the Philosopher, a code of laws that were in force till the fall of the empire. He fought successfully against the Saracens.Nearby pages
