Bass

Bass is a common European freshwater perch, or any of a number of fish similar or related to it. The American freshwater fish called by this name belongs to the sunfish family which is particularly popular with anglers. Two genera, Ambloplites and Micropterus, belonging to the family Centrarchidae are noteworthy.

A marine fish found in temperate water is called a bass, or sea bass. It belongs to the family Moronidae, which includes the European bass Dicentrarchus labrax of the European waters, and the genus Morone of North America.
