Bathurst

Bathurst was the capital of British Gambia from 1821 to 1965. British presence was established there in 1816. In 1973, it was named Banjul. The city is situated at the mouth of the river Gambia, in Western Africa. It is inhabited chiefly by negroes. It chiefly exported palm-oil, ivory, gold dust, &c.
