Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge is a city on the East bank of the Mississippi, 130 miles above New Orleans, and capital of the state of Louisiana in the United States. It was originally a French settlement. The term literally meant 'red stick' in French and was used with reference to a post placed as a boundary marker for the settlement. It is situated in the southeastern central part of the state of Louisiana.
