Batter

Batter is a semiliquid mixture of flour and water, sometimes with more ingredients such as egg or milk, used in cooking. It is mostly used to coat food items before frying them, or to make cakes. Formerly, in printing, a damaged area of metal type or a printing block was called batter. That was when block printing was in vogue. Now, it has become a part of history. In sports, especially in baseball, batter is a player who is batting. In a wall or similar structure, batter is a gradual backward slope.
