Baxter State Park
Baxter State Park is a preserve in northern Maine, a state in the United States incorporating the state's highest peak Mount Katahdin and the northern end of the Appalachian Trail. It located is in the North Maine Woods region and borders the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument on the east. This state park is named after Percival P Baxter who was donor of land and instrumental in its establishment. It received 28 donations of land between 1931 and 1962, and eventually the park was established over 200,000 acres (809 sq km) of land. Baxter Park is not part of the Maine State Park system. Sole governance is provided by the Baxter State Park Authority.
