Beadle

Beadle, in Christian Church, was a minor officer of a parish who dealt with petty offenders. In due course of time the practice stopped. However, in Scotland, a church officer continued to assist the minister, who is called beadle. In Britain, a beadle is a ceremonial officer of a church, college, or similar institution.
