Beargrass

Beargrass, also bear grass, is name of several North American plants that have long, coarse, and grasslike leaves, such as yucca or elk grass.

Yucca is a wild beargrass of the gunus of the same name belonging to the family Agavaceae.

The elk grass is now cultivated as ornamental plant, however, its leaves were formerly used by American Indians to make watertight baskets. Its botanical name is Xerophyllum tenax, and it belongs to the family Liliaceae.
