Beaucaire

Beaucaire is a French town near Avignon, on the Rhône, which it spans with a magnificent bridge. It was once a great centre of trade, and famous for its annual fair, an event of its kind in the Mediterranean during the 17th century frequented by merchants from all parts of Europe. The fair was known as the Foire de Beaucaire. While the historic fair no longer exists in its original form, the city now holds a large festival in July called the Estivales.
