Béchamel

Béchamel is a short name for béchamel sauce. It is a rich white sauce made with milk, and herbs and other flavouring infused. The sauce is named after the Marquis Louis de Béchamel (d. 1703), who is said to have invented a similar sauce. He was steward to Louis XIV of France.
