Bed

Bed is a piece of furniture used typically to rest or sleep on. It can be made of wood, metal, or anything else. Mattress and coverings are also used with it while in use. The word is also used for any article or place used by a person or animal to rest or sleep. An area of ground or anything else typically prepared for plants or fungi is also called a bed, such as bed for potatoes, or mushrooms. Bed is also a foundation or base of a road, railroad, or any other structure supporting something else. The open part of a vehicle to carry goods is also called bed.

In sports, the flat surface beneath the baize of a billiard table is called its bed. Any layer or pile of something on which other things are placed is their bed. In geography or geology, it is a layer of material or bottom of something, such as a bed of granite, or a riverbed. In brief any mass or pile of anything resembling a bed is called a bed.

The term is also used to denote a time to sleep, such as bed time. However, informally, the term is also used to refer to sexual activity, such as going to bed with a partner.
