Beefsteak fungus

Beefsteak fungus, also beefsteak mushroom, is an edible fungus. This bracket fungus is reddish-brown in colour, which resembles raw beef, hence its name. It usually grows on oak or sweet chestnut trees. It is native to both Eurasia and North America. Its botanical name is Fistulina hepatica, and it belongs to the class Hymenomycetes and the family Fistulinaceae.
