Begusarai

Begusarai is a district in the State of Bihar in India. The district derives its name from its headquarters town of the same name. It has an area of 1,918 sq km. Begusarai lies in North Bihar between latitudes 25°15' and 25° 45' north and longitudes 85°45' and 86°36" east. It is bounded on the north by Samastipur, on the south by the Ganga and the Lakhisarai district, on the east by Khagaria and Munger and on the west by the Samastipur and Patna districts.

As per census 2011, the district had a population of 2,970,541.

In 1870 it was established as a sub-divison of the Munger district. It emerged as a district in 1972. It was named after "Begu" a man of this district who used to look after the "Sarai" of the Begum of Bhagalpur, an old and small market.

Sub divisions of this district are Bakhari, Baliya, Begusarai, Manjhaul, and Teghra.

Blocks of this district are Bhagawanpur, Teghra, Bakhri, Begusarai, Barauni, Bachwara, Cheria Bariyarpur, Balia, Khodabandpur, Sahebpur Kamal, Matihani, Garhpura, Navkothi, Birpur, Mansurchak, Chhourahi, Dandari, and Samho-Akaha-Kurha.

Wheat, Maize, Chili, and Pepper are major crops here. Fertilizer Factory, Thermal Power Station, and Petro-Chemicals are the major industries of this district. Rivers of this district are Ganga, and Kamla.
