Belittlement

Belittlement, a derivation from the word 'belittle' that was a coinage of Thomas Jefferson (1743 — 1826), originally meant 'diminishing in size, making small'. Later, it came to be applied in the sense of making someone or something seem unimportant, or of little importance.
