Bella Abzug
Bella Abzug (1920-98), also Bella Savitsky Abzug, was a US politician, lawyer, and women's rights activist. She fought for the rights of women and of the poor. She was born in 1920. Initially she gained fame as a lawyer defending individuals accused of un-American activities during the 1950s. She was also involved in peace movement. She was one of the founders of Women Strike for Peace in 1961 and the National Women’s Political Caucus. She elected to Congress in 1971 as a Democrat from New York, where her rhetorical style earned her the nickname “Battling Bella”.Wisdom & Quotes
