Benchmark

Benchmark is a point of reference against which things are compared. In geography or civil engineering, it is a mark that a surveyor makes as a reference point to measure altitudes. In computing, it is a problem designed to evaluate the performance of a computer. Benchmark indices are indicators that provide point of reference for evaluation.
