Benjamin Banneker

Benjamin Banneker (1731-1806) was a US mathematician, astronomer and inventor. He is known for his almanac 1791-1802 that featured his astronomical and tide calculations. He was hired on recommendation of Thomas Jefferson to assist in the survey of the District of Columbia in 1790. He was born to a slave father and freed slave mother.
