Berceuse

Berceuse is a term for a quiet gentle song resembling a lullaby. The term originated from the French 'bercer' literally 'to rock.' It has usually a rocking rhythm in 6/8 time.

Any composition for musical instrument or voice characteristically similar to it is also referred to as a berceuse.
