Bildungsroman

Bildungsroman is a term in literary criticism for a novel that is centred around a person's formative years or spiritual education. The term is formed by compounding two German words Bildung (education) and Roman (novel) to denote such type of novels portraying the psychological and moral growth of the protagonist, such as Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre.
