Bile

Bile is a fluid secreted from the blood by the liver to aid in digestion. It is a bitter greenish-brown alkaline fluid. The secretion of bile is most active after taking food. It is stored in gallbladder. It is also said to influence the emotions of a human being by shooting up anger and irritability, that is why the term bile is used to denote anger and irritability.

Yellow bile and black bile were included among the four humours by the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates (c. 460 BC–370 BC). Excess of yellow bile. which represents the element fire, makes a person choleric. Excess of black bile, which represents the element earth, makes a person melancholic.
