Bilge keel

Bilge keel is each of the plates or timbers fastened under the bottom and sided of the hull of a ship. It provides stability to the ship by preventing rolling through lateral resistance to the water. It also supports its weight in dry dock. It is a central fore-and-aft structure at the bottom of the hull, but sometimes projecting from the bottom.
