Billabong

Billabong is a term used for a branch of a river that forms a backwater. The channel is usually dry except after rain. The rainwater from the main stream of the river then flood the down stream and forms a stagnant pool. The term was originated from the Australian Bell River from New South Wales. It was formerly known as Wiradhuri bilabang.
