Biochemical Oxygen Demand

Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) is a measure used to ascertain the degree of pollution in water. It is the amount of dissolved oxygen required by biochemical processes to oxidize organic wastes in water, ie the microorganisms need this amount of oxygen to decompose the organic matter present in the water.
