Bishop

Bishop is an official of the Church, a senior member of the Christian clergy, originally an overseer of souls, eventually an overseer of churches, especially of a district, typically in charge of a diocese, and conceived of by High-Churchmen as representing the apostles and deriving his powers by transmission from them. He is empowered to confer holy orders in his jurisdiction.

There is also a bird called by this name. The bishop bird is an African weaverbird. A male bishop bird has red, orange, yellow, or black plumage. The red bishop, one of the several species, zoological name Euplectes orix, has scarlet plumage with a black face and underparts. Bishop bird belongs to the genus Euplectes, and the family Ploceidae.

In game of chess, bishop is a piece on board, typically with its top shaped like a miter. Each of the two players starts the game with two bishops on board. One of the bishop always move diagonally on white and the other on black squares.

Bishop is also the name given to a mulled and spiced wine.
