Bison

Bison is a wild ox. It is native to North America and Europe. It is humpbacked and shaggy-haired. It belongs to the genus Bison and the family Bovidae. Though two species of bisons are found — one in North American prairies and the other in European forests — these are sometimes regarded as single species. The common name for North American bison is buffalo and its zoological name is Bison bison. Wisent is the common name for the species found in European forests, now only in Poland, the zoological name of which is Bison bonasus.
