Bitmap

Bitmap, literally map of bits, is a term in computing for an item represented on computer screen corresponding to one or more bits of information, especially one that is used to control the display. Bitmaps are generally stored with a variable number of bits per pixel. The number of bits per pixel determines the number of colours. The bits representing the bitmap may be packed or unpacked in bytes. Bitmaps are actually the pieces of texts or pictures represented by activation of certain dots in a rectangular matrix.
