Bitter gourd

Bitter gourd, also known as bitter melon, is a tropical vine and its fruit grown in several countries in Asia as vegetable. Its fruits are cooked when unripe and green. It is also known for its medicinal qualities and is used in herbal treatment for diabetes.

There is also a widespread plant and its fruit of this name belonging to the gourd family (Cucurbitaceae). Its botanical name is Momordica charantia.
