Black and tan

Black and tan is a terrier, a dog of a breed, having black back, and tan markings elsewhere, such as on the face, flanks, and legs. The term is also used for a drink made of ale and stout or porter. The place or event frequented or attended by both black and white people are also called 'black and tan'.

'Black and Tans' was also the name of an armed constabulary recruited by Great Britain in 1920-21 to fight Sinn Fein in Ireland during Irish war of Independence. It was so named on account of the khaki and black colours of their uniform. They were recruited in the Royal Irish Constabulary (RIC) as reinforcements.
