Black oyster plant

Black oyster plant, also called scorzonera or black salsify, is a plant of the daisy family and its root. It has tapering purple-brown edible root which is used as vegetable. The plant is also considered by many in Italy as an antidote to snake's venom. Its botanical name is Scorzonera hispanica, and it belongs to the Compositae family.
