Blanketweed

Blanketweed is a common green freshwater alga, named so because it forms long unbranched filaments. It belongs to the genus Spirogyra, phylum Chlorophyta, of the kingdom Plantae or Protista. It oftern becomes a problem in garden ponds or overenriched water.
