Blast furnace

Blast furnace is a kind of furnace used for smelting, a process of applying heat to ore to extract the base metal. Such a smelting furnace is constructed in the form of a tower and a blast of hot compressed air is blown from below, and hence its name. Such furnaces are used chiefly to make iron.
