Blenny

Blenny is name of a number of fish including the true spiny-finned small marine fish found in shallow inshore or intertidal waters. It has a blunt head and scaleless skin. It derives its name from 'blennos', literally mucus in Greek, because of its mucous coating. Blennius is one of the notable genus among several genera of this fish belonging to the family Blennidae. Other fishes resembling or related to this true blenny are also known by this name, such as the 'hairy blenny' found along the Atlantic coast from the Bahamas to Brazil.
