Blue law

Blue law is a law that is enacted to prohibit certain activities, such a shopping on Sundays. Such laws are typically religious in nature. In colonial New England region of the United States, there was a strict blue law, which was strictly religious, in all the states which prohibited entertainment or leisure activities on Sundays.
