Blue ribbon

Blue ribbon, also called blue riband, is a badge worn by members of the Order of the Garter in the United Kingdom. The badge made of blue ribbon and given to the winner of a competition as first prize is also called blue ribbon. The term is also used to refer to a committee or jury that is carefully selected for a particular purpose, such as a blue-ribbon committee.
