Boer
Boer was a member of the Dutch and Huguenot population called the Boers, or anything of or relating to the Boers. They were Calvinist in religion, fiercely self-sufficient, and had settled in southern Africa in the late 17th century. The Boers had conflicts with the British administration of Cape Colony after 1806, which led to the Great Trek movement of 1835 — 37 and the Boer Wars — the first 1880–1881, and the second 1899 — 1902, after which the Boer republic of Transvaal and Orange Free State became part of the Republic of South Africa. The Afrikaners of the present day are their descendants.
