Boreal
Boreal denotes the northern biotic area that is dominated by tundra, taiga, and coniferous forests. Something of this region is also referred to by this term. In ecology, the term also denotes the characteristic of this climatic zone that lies south of the Arctic. As a botanical term it refers to the entire phytogeographical kingdom comprising the arctic and temperate regions of Eurasia and North America. Boreal is also the name given to a geological period between the Preboreal (9000 years ago) and the Atlantic stages (7,500 years ago), which was the second climatic stage of the post glacial period in northern Europe.
