Borra Caves

Borra caves are located in Anantagiri in the State of Andhra Pradesh in India. These are situated at 1,400 metres above sea level near Visakhapatnam. They are of religious and historical significance.

The caves are famous for their beautiful stalagmite and stalactite formations.

There is a Shivalinga and an idol of Kamadhenu in the caves. The rock formations inside the caves look like udders of a cow and hence, these caves also are called Gosthani.

The place is also historically important because of one million years old stone implements were found from the site. William King George belonging to the Geological Survey of India was instrumental in discovering those Paleolithic implements in 1807.
