Brunetière

Brunetière (1849-1906), full name Ferdinand Vincent-de-Paul Marie Brunetière, also known as Ferdinand Brunetière in short, was a French writer and critic. He was connected with the Revue des Deux Mondes and later its editor. He was a very sound and sensible critic. His chief work, begun in the form of lectures in 1890, entitled "L'Évolution des Genres de l'Histoire de la Littérature Française". His writings were highly praised by Prof. Saintsbury who said during his lifetime that he "promises to be one of the chief monuments that the really 'higher' criticism has yet furnished."
