Caesare Bonesana
Caesare Bonesana, Marquis of Beccaria (1738-1794), also Marchese Beccaria Cesare Bonesana in Italian, was an Italian publicist, criminologist, jurist, philosopher, economist and politician, who is widely considered one of the greatest thinkers of the Age of Enlightenment. He was author of a celebrated "Treatise on Crimes and Punishments," which has been widely translated, and contributed much to lessen the severity of sentences in criminal cases.
