Caius Duilius

Caius Duilius (fl. 260–231 BC), also Gaius Duilius, was a Roman general, statesman, and a consul. He, as consul, during the First Punic War, was distinguished for having on the coast of Sicily, at the Battle of Mylae, gained the first naval victory recorded in the annals of Rome, 260 BC by defeating the Carthaginians. He became censor in 258 BC, and was appointed dictator to hold elections in 231 BC.
