Cartouche
Cartouche (1693-1721), real name Louis Dominique Garthausen, was a notorious captain of a band of thieves, born in Paris. When he wanted to hide his identity, he usually went by the name of Louis Bourguignon or Louis Lamarre. As it was reported, he used to steal from the rich and give it to the poor, and plays and stories were written on him, which made him even popular among a section of people. However, he was ultimately arrested and broken on the wheel alive in the Place de Grève.Nearby pages
